To meet criterion 3.2 in TCO Certified, energy efficiency and renewable energy data must be reported for all final assembly factories that produce certified products by 31 August each year.
For final assembly factories that manufactured only TCO Certified, generation 9 products during 2024, the following requirements apply:
The energy efficiency indicators must be updated on TCO Certified Portal before 31 August. This information can be found in the 11.2 Factory form and must be submitted to an approved verifier. To check which factories have not reported data for 2024, look at column “EEI status” in the “Accepted Factory List” tab on TCO Certified Portal.
For final assembly factories that manufactured TCO Certified, generation 10 products during 2024, the following must be submitted:
- the total electricity used (MWh)
- the total renewable electricity ratio for the whole factory (%)
- the renewable electricity ratio for the brand owner’s manufacturing of certified products at the factory (%).
All applicable factories are listed on TCO Certified Portal. Please check the “Accepted Factory List” tab in the column “Renewable energy submission by”.
Renewable energy reporting can be conducted for either the entire factory or specifically for the brand owners’ manufacturing operations. Reporting on (and purchasing Renewable Energy Certificates for) the brand owner’s share of the factory’s operation can lead to a higher ratio of renewable energy than reporting figures for the whole factory. A brand’s share of the factory’s energy consumption is determined by its revenue or manufacturing volume.
Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) are valid up to three months before purchase and six months after purchase. This means that RECs issued from June 2023 to March 2025 can be used to report consumption in 2024.
For this reporting period, no minimum level of renewable energy is required, but retirement statements for renewable energy certificates should be submitted, if available.
