We are updating the Energy Efficiency criterion for desktops in TCO Certified, generation 10. The aim is to give more flexibility in how compliance can be demonstrated, while continuing to ensure strong, transparent, and verifiable energy efficiency requirements.
What’s changing?
An additional compliance option has been added. Products and all configurations must now comply with one of the following:
- ENERGY STAR® for Computers, version 8,
or - Commission Regulation (EU) No 617/2013
Clarification of test methods under EU Regulation 617/2013
To ensure consistent and reliable verification, we are also adding clarifications on how testing must be carried out when Commission Regulation (EU) No 617/2013 is used for compliance:
- Power consumption in off mode, sleep mode, and idle mode must be measured in accordance with EN 62623:2013, as referenced in Commission Communication 2014/C 110/05 (Document 52014XC0411(06)) on transitional measurement methods.
- Internal power supply efficiency must be measured according to the Generalized Test Protocol for Calculating the Energy Efficiency of Internal AC-DC and DC-DC Power Supplies, Revision 6.6, or a later revision shown to be technically equivalent.
- All measurements must be performed at 230 V AC, 50 Hz, THD ≤ 2 %.
- Testing must be carried out by an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory, with the relevant test methods included in its scope of accreditation.
When does this apply?
The update takes effect immediately. It will be formally included in the next published edition of the TCO Certified, generation 10 criteria document for desktops.
